X can show "You're blocked" directly. Learn how that differs from indirect signs and what it still doesn't tell you.

What you'll learn

  • Open their profile while signed in
  • Separate it from other messages
  • Recognise indirect signs
  • Know the API direction
  • Use the X checker

How it works

X is one of the few platforms that tells you directly when an account has blocked you.

The video shows one creator's approach. Where it suggests a sign "confirms" a block, read the limitations below — most signs have other explanations.

Before you start

  • An X account, signed in

Step by step

  1. Open their profile while signed in

If X displays "You're blocked" with an explanation, that notice comes from X itself.

  2. Separate it from other messages

"This account is suspended", "This account doesn't exist" and protected-account locks are different situations.

  3. Recognise indirect signs

Missing replies or search results alone are not the same as the explicit notice.

  4. Know the API direction

X's API can list accounts you have blocked — not accounts that blocked you.

  5. Use the X checker

Report the notice to get the "Platform explicitly indicates a block" result.

Android, iPhone and desktop

Android & iPhone
Open the profile from search; the notice appears in place of the follow button and posts.
Desktop
Visit x.com/username while signed in. Since late 2024 you may still see public posts even when blocked, but you can't follow or reply.

Signs you may notice — and what they prove

  • Their profile shows a notice that I'm blocked from following or viewing their posts

    Shown by the platform itself

This notice is displayed by X itself, which is the strongest evidence available. We still can't verify what you saw.

  • I can't see their posts or interact like before

    Often just a privacy setting

Protected accounts, reply limits and muted conversations all limit interaction without blocking.

  • The profile can't be found or says the account doesn't exist

    Often just a privacy setting

'This account doesn't exist' means a renamed, deactivated or suspended account, not a block.

Important

  • Getting around a block (e.g. alternate accounts) violates X's rules.

Common mistakes and troubleshooting

I see "These posts are protected"
The account is private, not necessarily blocking you.

What this does not prove

  • A notice you see is strong evidence, but Who Block Me still treats it as reported by you, not verified by us.

Frequently asked questions

Can Who Block Me pull this from X?

No. The X connection is not set up, and the API doesn't expose who blocked you.
