What you'll learn

  • Read the ticks
  • Understand "last seen"
  • Check the profile photo
  • Remember your own settings
  • Use the Telegram checker

How it works

Telegram has very flexible privacy settings, so the same view can result from a block or from a setting.

The video shows one creator's approach. Where it suggests a sign "confirms" a block, read the limitations below — most signs have other explanations.

Before you start

  • The Telegram app

Step by step

  1. Read the ticks

One tick means delivered to Telegram's servers; two ticks mean read. One tick for a long time can mean they simply haven't opened the chat.

  2. Understand "last seen"

"Recently", "within a week" and "within a month" are privacy approximations. "A long time ago" is shown when someone is blocked — but also for inactive accounts.

  3. Check the profile photo

Photos can be limited to contacts or selected people.

  4. Remember your own settings

If you hide your last seen, Telegram may hide others' from you.

  5. Use the Telegram checker

Select what you saw for alternative explanations.

Signs you may notice — and what they prove

  • Messages show only one check mark

Consistent with a block, but has other causes

One check means delivered to Telegram's servers, not yet read. If it stays that way, they may be blocking you — or simply not opening the chat.

  • Their profile photo disappeared or changed

    Often just a privacy setting

Telegram lets users show photos to only some people, or remove them entirely.

  • Last seen shows 'a long time ago' or is unavailable

    Often just a privacy setting

'Last seen a long time ago' is shown to blocked users, but also appears when someone hides last seen from you via privacy settings.

Important

  • Telegram Login only confirms identity; it never gives access to chats or blocks.

Common mistakes and troubleshooting

Last seen changed to "a long time ago"
Consistent with a block, but also with a person who stopped using Telegram.

What this does not prove

  • None of these signs proves a block on its own. Only a notice shown by the platform itself is strong evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Do two ticks rule out a block?

Yes for that message — a blocked contact's messages are not marked read.
